Miraculous landing – Noble Leader?

April 19, 2018 - Leaders, Leadership
1

By now you’ve probably heard about this miraculous landing, described in this article by NBC News.

Caring” is not usually a word used in describing a great (i.e., successful) leader. But there it is right there in this article.

The article is about the former Navy Pilot who “landed” Southwest Airlines Flight #1380, bound from New York to Dallas, even though an engine had exploded sending shrapnel into the plane, with many passengers concluding that “this is it; life for us is about to end”.

We had already put Captain Sullenberger on our list of Noble Leaders for his calm leadership in successfully “landing” his plane “on” the Hudson River several years ago – with no loss of life.

But there it is, that word, “caring” in this article about the latest miraculous landing of a disabled aircraft.

Caring is an important quality of a Noble Leader. But it’s rarely mentioned in Leadership courses or books.

Speaking of Noble Leadership, we wanted to bring you up to date on how we are doing on getting our book on The Noble Leader for an Emergent Reality completed and published:

  1. We finally have a publisher. We’re about to finalize the contract with them, after which we’ll release their name;
  2. We continue to give presentations about Noble Leaders – and the (Emergent) Reality they live in. Presentations have been in the U.S., Europe and South America at business and education conferences. Reactions have been very positive. (See one result below.) We’d be happy to talk with you about possibly presenting at your conference – or within your company.
  3. We have been asked by the HAAS Business School at the University of California (as a result of one of their professors attending one of the conferences we presented at) to send them copies of some of the chapters of the book (even before it is published). We’re working on that right now;
  4. What you can do to help:
    A) we have not “closed” our list of Noble Leaders. If you know of such a leader whom we should consider including in the book, please tell us who it is and why you propose that person.

    B) We’re trying to reach Dar’s former strategic editor to help us possibly in finalizing the book, Since we’ve lost touch with her, we haven’t been able to do that. She used to work at Berrett-Koehler, which is where Dar met her twenty years ago. We sent an email to BK, hoping they could help us, but it didn’t get through. If you know her and how to reach her, please let us know. We think she is still in Fort Brag, CA.

    C) As mentioned above, if you know of a place where we might present about The Noble Leader (and the Emergent Reality he/she operates within), please let us know.

Thanks much for your interest and support.
