How are you faring in these challenging times?
We are not just in a lockdown – a quarantine.
We are in a time of great change for Humanity.
There are signs that we are letting go of Me-ism – Viewing the world as a place in which to Compete and Win.
Warren Buffett once said that there wasn’t a moment that he wasn’t trying to figure out how to make more money.
For most of us, we are primarily trying to improve our Financial situation or position (i.e., Status) in Life.
But this pandemic is showing another possible driving force for our lives: Giving to others.
Examples include:
• Front line Medical people putting their own lives at risk to care for the sick;
• 82,000 people in NY volunteering to help;
• Companies sending free meals to First Responders
The examples seem endless.
Every day, the news media reports new stories of the Kindness of Strangers.
This is not a new idea. Theodore Roosevelt said a hundred years ago:
“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”
This time just might possibly be remembered as when the Heart emerged as the governing Human center, replacing (or, at least,assisting) the Mind.
And to think, it will have been from our collective reaction to a tiny virus.
But, there have been other times, during National threats, when we have pulled together to serve the Common Good, such as after Pearl Harbor in 1941 or after “9-11”, when, in Europe people made signs saying “We are All Americans’”
Will this time be different? Will the change “stick”?
Will this be the time we permanently choose unity over separation, love over fear, acceptance and forgiveness over blame and anger, service to others over service to self? Will it be this time? Only we/you can choose.
It is up to each and every one of us!
