Back in the 1960’s and 70’s, there was a popular TV program called StarTrek, which was later made into a hit movie Star Wars, actually several. Its motto was about “Space – the Final Frontier”
I read recently about plans to put a person on Mars, which referred again to “space, the final frontier”.
Yet, what if Humanity’s Final Frontier was about inner space, rather than outer space?!
Our search for knowledge has understandably led to physical exploration, and thus discovering and exploring such frontiers as the New World, the Wild West, the depths of the sea, and, in the last fifty years, “outer space”
Yet, it may be time that we advanced as a civilization by exploring and understand our Inner Space” rather than just being fixated on Outer Space.
By doing this, we might improve work life, companies and leadership. This is how Herb Kelleher, founder and long-time CEO of Southwest Airlines, once described how he was making SW Air a great company:
“We care about employees in the totality of their lives, not just at work. People can go out and buy Boeing aircraft and put up ticket counters, but they can’t buy our Esprit de Corps.”
This is about exploring our inner existence – the realms and power of the Mind, the Heart and Human Spirit, including
- Our Higher Purpose – in serving the world, beyond just making a living
- Human Spirit – and its role in Life and Work, not just Mind
- Oneness – how we’re all intricately connected
What frontier(s) most fascinate you?
