One day recently, a truck driver strolled into a restaurant in Oklahoma. He bought a $10 meal and then went to pay his bill. No big deal: that happens every day. Most of life is about making your money goes as far as it can to meet your needs.
What happened next came out of a different reality, one that I and the co-author of our forthcoming book are calling the “Emergent Reality”. The man left a $1,000 tip. Then he came back later and after buying desert, left another $1.000 tip.
Why he did that is worth pondering. Here’s his explanation:
“I got the impression that she was having a hard time of it, so I thought I’d just help her out a little bit,”
Imagine a world where people do that, a world that is no longer
- “Dog eat dog” or
- “You only go around once in this life, so you have to grab for all you can GET”
…but one where people are motivated to GIVE to others, rather than to GET always from others!
It’s a different way of operating (and seeing the world): One of GIVING rather than just GETTING. This incident may just be the tip of the iceberg of an Emergent Reality!
WHOM will you give to today, and WHAT will you give?
If you already do this, then Bravo!
Feel free to share examples of Giving: What you gave, to Whom , Why and what that did for You.
We’d like to hear from you.
